LED Signs come in various "resolutions" which helps determine how well your graphics look on the sign. For instance, a 34mm pitch means that the distance between the center of each pixel is 34mm. These are actually very low res LED signs and are used predominantly for DOT highway informational signs where the viewing distance is typically 150 feet or more.
The most common resolution configurations for outdoor color LED signs is 16mm to 20mm. The 20mm signs offer great viewing resolution from 100 feet or more away. The 16mm signs are great for 75 feet or more away. If your customer will view your sign from 40 to 60 feet away you'll want to consider a 12mm or 14mm outdoor digital sign for optimal viewing results.
Ask your sign company or sales rep for a demo of different resolutions before making your decision. This is a big investment so it's important to match your expectations with what you think your potential customer will be seeing....

Apple, Dell, HP, Blackberry, Vizio - all products that are manufactured in the Shenzhen region of China - the same area that most LED message signs are manufactured. So why can't you just "order" your LED sign directly from China on the internet? It's very simple - YOU WILL GET BURNED.
Yes, all Dell laptops are manufactured in China but would you order a laptop from China - site unseen? Probably not.
That's the same with your LED message sign. ALL LED signs come from China - the same way all televisions sets come from China. The differences are the components that go into the sign and the support/spare parts that come with the sign.
Clearview LED Message Signs are built with the best of breed components: Epistar LEDs, Linsn Controller Cards, aluminum cabinets and UPGRADED UL Meanwell Power Supplies.
Secondly, all Clearview LED Message Signs come with a spare parts kit which includes a spare LED module, a spare power supply and a spare controller card - all the parts you would need to keep your sign up a running without waiting for spare parts from the manufacturer.
How about tech support? Clearview LED Message Signs keeps a staff of qualified tech support personnel...

Changeable digital signs are the most effective means of advertising out there with costs per CPM of approx $.75 versus $8 - $12 for TV, Radio and newspaper. Before buying an LED sign, you need to know the local ordinances and code pertaining to their usage.
Most jurisdictions have limitations on LED signs regarding size, frequency of change, brightness, etc. The best bet is to hire a sign company who has extensive experience with LED signs in order to make the transaction a smooth one - otherwise, you could be paying $1,000s for something you can't use.
Regulations to keep in mind include: Collier County - Naples - no LED signs allowed. Sarasota County - no LED signs allowed. Manatee County, FL LED signs allowed with some limitations. City of Sarasota, FL - LED signs allowed with some limitations. City of Tampa and Hillsborough County allow LED signs with some limitations as do Pinellas County, Largo and the City of St. Pete.

LED outdoor digital signs are the most effective means of advertising/promotion available to a retail/storefront establishment and it's important to understand that the LEDs are actually a consumable. In other words, the LED lamps tend to dim out over time and since an LED digital sign is good for 80,000 - 100,000 hours, there are some tricks that we use to extend the useful life of the sign.
First, set the scheduler in your LED control software for the sign to shut off from 12:00 midnight until 6:00 am. This will help increase the effective life of the sign from 7 years to 10 years.
Secondly, use the auto dimmer capability of your sign. Today's LED digital sign is meant to be clearly seen during the middle of the day so they are extremely bright. By using the auto dimmer to reduce the brightness as night falls you will extend the life of your sign by several years.
Here is a photo of a recent 16mm Cleaview LED Sign by West Coast Signs installed in Tampa, FL. It is running at 30% brightness in this photo which is plenty bright enough without being a distraction.

The latest generation of LED digital message signs are extremely bright and they need to be regulated but the user in order to prevent distractions for night time drivers.
West Cost Signs recently installed a double faced 16mm Clearview LED sign in Clearwater, FL on busy Hwy 19. The sing looks great during normal daylight hours but is much too bright in the evening. Fortunately, the sign is equipped with an auto dimmer which is a photocell that detects the outside ambient light and dims or brightens the sign accordingly. The sign now runs at 30% brightness during the evening and about 80% brightness during the day.
The benefits of using the auto dimmer feature on your sign included 1. Fewer motorist complaints 2. Less power usage 3. extends the life of the digital led sign.

Have you ever noticed some signs are much brighter at night than others?
Brightness could be a factor of several things:
1. Daylight Lamps vs. Cool White lamps. More and more of today's signs are built using daylight spectrum lamps instead of cool white lamps. Daylight or DA lamps display a broader spectrum of light and there fore, appear brighter at night. Cool white lamps have a tungsten tinge which makes them appear beige or light brown in comparison to daylights. Ask your sign company to change out your lamps to daylights - the cost is not significant and you'll be shocked at the difference.
2. Sign faces tend to fade or get color damaged over time. Regardless of how bright your lamps are, it's possible that your sign face has simply faded or has been damaged by the sun. This will also cause your sign to appear less bright. Have your sign service company quote new faces which will give your sign a great facelift.
3. Algae buildup. After several years signs often develop algae growth on the inside of the faces. That growth restricts the light that shines from inside the sign. Have your sign service company clean the faces on...
